Massachusetts TIPS Certification
Responsibe alcohol training is not mandated by the state of Massachusetts. However, some local cities and municipalities have made responsible beverage server training mandatory. In addition, many Massachusetts Insurance companies have made certification mandatory for the bars to purchase liquor liability insurance.
TIPS (T.I.P.S. - Training and Intervention Procedures for Servers of alcohol) Certification - If you've been told you must have your TIPS card to be hired at a liquor serving establishment, this is the training and card required.
TIPS Alcohol Training Online is accepted statewide for use in Massachusetts with the exception of Westborough. Westborough accepts classroom training only.

Massachusetts law allows customers to remove one partially consumed bottle of wine from a restaurant provided the wine was purchased with a meal. The bottle must be placed in a transparent bag designed to be used only one time and the receipt for the wine must be attached to the bag.

Non-Alcoholic Beer & Wine - Massachusetts does not have a state regulation, although local licensing authorities may have their own regulations
Liquor Liability - The penalties for liquor law violations can be criminal, civil and administrative. Common criminal penalties are monetary fines and jail sentences. Licensees found guilty of civil actions can be made to pay damages to the injured party bringing the suit. Administrative penalties may include suspension or revocation of the license. Typically, the penalty for serving or selling alcohol to a minor is a 6-day suspension of the license for the first offense.
Happy Hour Laws - Licensees may not: offer single-priced, unlimited service drink specials; give free drinks to patrons; encourage any organized game which awards alcohol as a prize or promotes excessive drinking; or serve more than two drinks to a patron at one time.
